CDR – Central District Rotterdam

Rotterdam is a city that is constantly changing. From being a city built around the harbor, automobiles, and factories, it is becoming a city for people. The city is experiencing this change: roads are narrowing, parking spaces are being converted to parks, old buildings are being replaced with sky scrapers, and bike infrastructure is being built. As part of the tour, we will stop at several locations in the city center to show how Rotterdam is creating this change:

  • Making roads more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly by removing car lanes

  • Urban green oases on rooftops

  • Creating green parks instead of parking spaces

  • Using tactical urbanism to experiment with different solutions

  • How to deal with climate change: heat, rain, and rising sea levels

  • Collaboration between citizens, NGO's, the private sector, and the government.
